Indian cricketer Ishant Sharma got engaged to basketball player Pratima Singh on Sunday in Delhi.
“Ishant and Pratima got engaged in the presence of friends and relatives at a hotel in Gurgaon on Sunday. Their marriage will take place in December, most likely in Varanasi,” Pratima’s mother Urmila Singh told Hindustan Times.
The marriage will be held in December this year.
“I am very pleased with my daughter’s choice. Pratima is a sportsperson and has chosen a cricketer as her life partner. Ishant is very good. Ring ceremony is done. Now, we are looking for an auspicious muhurt (time) for the marriage in December,” she added.
Hailing from Varanasi, Pratima Singh has represented India in the international matches. Her siblings are also basketball players. Her elder sister Priyanka Singh and Divya Singh have represented India in basketball matches. Priyanka Singh is working as a National institute of Sports (NIS) coach and Divya coaches junior India basketball team. Two other sisters, Prashanti Singh and Akansha Singh are also basketball players.
Holding masters in physical education (MPED) and M Phil (physical education) from Delhi University, Pratima was selected as the captain of the Indian team in 2008. She has participated in the Asian Games in 2010.
Ishant met Pratima five years ago and developed a relationship after their first meeting. The marriage was postponed to December from July considering the expected international tours of Ishant.
Ishant’s teammate Rohit Sharma took it to Twitter to congratulate the cricketer and used the opportunity to troll the 6’5” tall bowler saying that he should have trimmed his long hair at least on the special day.
“Welcome to the club @ImIshant congratulations you two. Lekin aaj ke din toh baal katva leta bhai,” tweeted Rohit Sharma.
