In a royal ceremony that followed traditional dynastic rituals, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wodeyar, scion of the Mysuru royal family, married Trishika Kumari of Rajasthan’s Dungarpur royal family on Monday at the specially built ‘Kalyana mandapa’ (marriage hall) in the Amba Vilas Palace in Mysuru.
In the backdrop of Vedic mantras and Carnatic music, ‘Rajguru’of the dynasty Abhinava Vageesha Brahmatantra Swatantra Swami of Bramhatantra Parakala mutt oversaw the ritual that was officiated by over three dozen priests, reported The Hindustan Times.
About 1000 guests, including the friends, relatives, members of royal families across the country, were present at the function.
“Maharani Pramoda Devi, who is Yaduveer’s mother, was very particular that the wedding ceremonies took place according to the wedding customs, so we were happy to see our traditions being followed step-by-step. Every puja was in accordance with the scriptures and the tradition of the Mysore royal family. Even the wedding dress worn by Yaduveer has been specially designed by Her Highness Pramoda Devi,” M Lakshminarayana, Secretary to the Mysore palace, told reporters.
The marriage rituals that last for a few days started on Saturday with Yaduveer performing ‘pada puja’ to the ‘rajguru.’On Monday, the rituals began on 6 am with Yaduveer performing ‘Ganapati pooja’ and ‘Trishika Gowri pooja’. The time of marriage (muhurta) was between 9.05 am and 9.35 am.
Both exchanged specially prepared garlands “Highness Garland” a couple of times, and performed other rituals like ‘kanyadan’, ‘mangalya dharana’ (tying of nuptial knot) and ‘saptapadi’ (seven steps around the holy fire).
Yaduveer, the 27th ‘King’ of Wodeyar dynasty was adopted by Pramoda Devi Wodeyar, after the death of her husband and the last descendant of the family, Srikanta Datta Narasimha Raja Wodeyar in February last year. Later, he was enthroned as the king in May 2015.
24-year-old Yaduveer has completed BA in Economics and English from Boston University in the US. Trishika Kumari, the second daughter of Maharaj Kumar Harshavardhan Singh and Rajkumari Maheshri Kumari, was engaged to Yaduveer last year.
The couple hosted a royal reception at the Durbar Hall on Monday evening where about 50 royal families across the country were invited. A special private reception is arranged on June 28 in Mysuru, where top politicians, celebrities, diplomats, and royal families have been invited. On July 2, another reception party will take place in Bengaluru.
The couple will go on a procession on June 29 in a decorated motorcade within the palace precincts for public viewing.
