A six-year-old girl’s body was found stuffed in a cooking vessel in Tamil Nadu’s Salem district on Sunday, a day after her father reported her missing.
The vessel was in the house of the alleged rapist, a 17-year-old boy from the same neighborhood.
The child, a class 2 student from Telenganur taluk, had disappeared on Saturday evening after her father had sent her out to buy groceries.
The girl’s father, who had been looking for her since Saturday evening, went to the police on Sunday morning and reportedly complained that she had been seen by people, walking with the teenager.
According to police, she was lured away by the teenager, a school dropout with sweets. He allegedly took her to his house and assaulted her.
The boy tried to run away when the police came into his house, but later was arrested in connection with the crime.
