Delhi-based journalist Swati Chaturvedi on Sunday filed a complaint against Bollywood singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya for allegedly using “foul and offensive” language against her on Twitter.
The journalist got into a spat with the singer when the latter called the murder of a techie in Chennai, a case of ‘love jihad’ suggesting that her attacker was a Muslim.
When many other Twitter user criticized Abhijeet for giving out false information and making derogatory remarks, Swati Chaturvedi took to twitter accusing him “jealous of Pakistani singers who took his mediocre career”.
Abhijeet abused the lady and called her “an old woman” in his expletive-filled rant.
The journalist tagged Mumbai police on Twitter and demanded action against Abhijeet. Mumbai police wrote back and advised her to approach Delhi police and asked her to lodge a formal complaint. Vasant Vihar Police registered a non-cognizable complaint and will soon forward the case to Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Abhijeet said he uses social media to express himself, but people tend to create controversy. “The journalists who trolled me are known anti-nationals. Saying that I am jealous of Pakistani artists is such a shameful thing to say.”
