After a horrific video of a man throwing a dog from a roof is being widely shared on Social media, the cybercrime cell of the Chennai police on Monday identified the person and registered a case against him.
Gautam S, a final year MBBS student at Madha Medical College in Tamil Nadu, was first recognized by his classmates. The identity of the person who shot the video around two weeks ago remains unknown.
The News Minute reported that, when the police went to arrest the duo, they were absconding.
Gautam went home while the other person returned to his village, police said.
“The issue had surfaced two weeks ago when the video was uploaded. However, when students of the college recognised Gautam and tried to reveal his identity, he threatened them,” said Shravan Krishnan, an animal rights activist who had accompanied the police.
The 33-second video went viral on Monday and runs in slow motion, shows the man holding a dog by its neck and then pushing it off the building while smiling. The video ends with the sound of the dog crying in pain.
The Human Society International had offered a reward of Rs. 100,000 to the one who would provide valid information about the man.
