Tamil Nadu police arrested two medical students on Wednesday for allegedly throwing a dog off a two storied building in Chennai two days back. A video of one of them throwing the dog had gone viral a few days ago on social media attracting widespread criticism from all over the country and internationally.
The two are identified as Gowtham Sudarshan and Ashish Paul, students of Madha Medical College. According to the police, Gowtham Sudarshan flung the dog off the building and Ashish Paul filmed it.
After the video went viral, public and animal rights activists had come up condemning the act and demanding legal action against both. The Humane Society International, an animal protection group had offered Rupees 1 lakh to those helping find the accused.
The police registered a case against them and launched a manhunt leading to the arrest. The college authorities had said that they would not be allowed to appear in the examination if they fail to surrender before the police.
On Tuesday, animal welfare activist Shravan Krishnan found the dog alive which was supposed to have died. He posted a photo of the dog on Instagram on Tuesday.
“Good news – The dog has been found alive. She is not able to walk properly. She is with us now. Will be under treatment. What breaks my heart is that she was still wagging her tail,” Krishnan wrote.
The dog sustained fractures in her hind legs and is under treatment at the Madras Veterinary College and will take 4-5 weeks to recover.
The culprits were produced before a magistrate and granted bail later on.

It is a pity that the culprits are medical students. Showing such cruelty to the animal and having insane behavior disqualify them to become a Doctor. Such people are a danger
to the community.
