Micro-blogging site Twitter has appointed Bret Taylor, a former senior executive at Facebook and an ex-Google employee, to its board of directors as it struggle to regain footing in the social media landscape.
Bret Taylor, who helped to build Google Maps and co-founder of a social networking startup Friendfeed, joined Twitter’s board as its 10th member.
Mr. Taylor is also the co-founder of the productivity software Quip.
“Twitter is the fastest way to find out what’s happening, and beneath its simplicity lies a very sophisticated set of technology,” Mr. Taylor, 35, said in a statement.
“I hope to bring my knowledge and experiences to bear to help Jack and the board push Twitter and its services forward” he added.
“Bret brings to our Board a great mind for consumer products and technologies that will be invaluable to the company as we execute our plans for 2016 and beyond,” Omid Kordestani, Twitter’s executive chairman, was quoted as saying.
Twitter has hired several new board members like British internet entrepreneur Martha Lane Fox, Pepsi CFO Hugh Johnston and BET CEO Debra Lee, since Jack Dorsey returned to the company and took over as its chief executive last year.
The 10-year-old Twitter has been struggling with how to increase its audience growth, which has stalled even as other social media platforms like Instagram continue to pull in new members.
