One is getting known more as the owner of sports franchises in India than as an actor and better still for being a famous father’s son and a beauty queen’s husband, and the other has made giant strides in the world of business apart from his being a yoga guru: actor Abhishek Bachchan and yoga maestro and businessman Baba Ramdev, respectively. The duo will be the stars of this year’s India Day parade in New York, with Bachchan taking on the mantle of Grand Marshall.
The parade this year in Manhattan will be on August 21, according to officials of the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA), speaking at the Indian Consulate in New York. India’s Consul General of India in New York Riva Ganguly Das was present at the meet.
The parade this year will start from noon on August 21, from 39th Street and Madison Avenue, and culminate near 26th Street and Madison Avenue, where several stalls would be set up, and cultural programs will be held till 6:00 P.M.
As in earlier years, a mammoth crowd of around 100,000 people is expected to converge on the India Day Parade, which organizers claim is the largest such event outside of India’s celebration of the country’s independence, on August 15th.
Abhishek Bachchan, son of the legend Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, and husband of beauty queen and actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, made his film debut in Refugee (2000), but really made a name for himself with the blockbuster action thriller Dhoom (2004). Since then, he has starred in several successful films, including Bunty Aur Babli (2005), Dhoom 2 (2006), Guru (2007), Dostana (2008), Bol Bachchan (2012) and Housefull 3 (2016), according to Wikipedia.
Bachchan bought the Pro Kabaddi League franchise team Jaipur Pink Panthers and co-bought the Indian Super League football team Chennaiyin FC. Jaipur Pink Panthers won the first ever championships held in 2014. Chennaiyin FC won the ISL 2015.
