A kebab shop owner in New Zealand has been accorded a super-hero status after a video went viral showing him keeping cool and serving another customer when an armed robber demands money and points a gun at him. Finally, the robber gives up and leaves the shop after realizing that his mission had failed.
The incident showing the incredible courage of Said Ahmed, the shop owner, came to light when Canterbury Police uploaded a video on Facebook. The incident, which happened in May, has been posted on Facebook to identify the robber.
The video shows a masked robber storming into the shop when Said Ahmed was packing some food for his customer. The robber pointed a bag towards Ahmed with one hand demanding money while wielding a gun at him. But, he went on packing the food and handed over the same to the customer.
The customer left the shop accepting the order. Then Ahmed went to the kitchen to resume his work. The robber stood at the counter for a few seconds and backed off realizing that he failed to scare the shop owner.
“He didn’t scare me… he was surprised from my reaction,” Ahmed told Fairfax New Zealand. “I was sure he would not shoot me. He came to rob me, not to kill me,” he added.
Said Ahmed, who migrated from Egypt to New Zealand 20 years ago, has been running Egyptian Kebab House in Christchurch for 15 years.
