Naseeba, a young rubber tapping employee from Thiruvananthapuram district, wouldn’t have necessarily thought of winning the bumper prize when she purchased 50 lottery tickets together a few days back. But, it was Naseeba who won the bumper prize worth Rupees one crore when the result was declared.
Naseeba from Chenkikkunnu, Kilimanoor, won the 11th ‘Sthree Shakti’ (woman power) lottery run by the Kerala state government.
Naseeba used to purchase tickets from Bhagavathy lottery agency in Kilimanoor frequently. Sometimes she had won prizes ranging from 1000 to 5000.
The young woman decided to purchase 50 tickets together using the Rupees 1000 prize of the same lottery she had won some days back. As she was familiar with the agency, they delivered the tickets without charging the commission. The agency also issued her a delivery challan which is usually given to retail sellers for drawing commission on the tickets sold.
Naseeba will get about Rupees 63 lakh after taxes as also the commission of about Rupees eight lakh since she holds the delivery challan.
The prize will be a huge relief for the poor family consisting of Naseeba’s sick mother and a younger sister. Her sister had lost a leg in an accident.
Naseeba said she would use the prize money to build a small house for the family and a stationery shop for her sister.
