Facebook has started testing its offline video feature in India that lets users save videos and watch them later offline.
According to a report in Android Police, the feature will lets users save videos in the ‘Saved’ section inside the app itself by tapping on the ‘Save video’ option from the drop down menu in the particular post. These saved videos can be viewed offline as many times as users want. But Facebook would not let users download the videos directly on the device storage in order to make them stick with the social media services.
The option is similar to YouTube’s offline feature, that lets users save some videos on the app to watch them later.
The testing of this new feature has reportedly started rolling out to users through the Facebook version 85 and 86(beta) for Android.
This offline video content will only be available on the Facebook app to protect copyrighted content, and Facebook is also giving publishers the option of disabling download for their content in order to protect copyrighted content. Only original videos posted on personal Facebook profiles and pages will get the offline video download option.
It was just weeks before that the Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that the firm is working on bringing new features to Facebook Live at the recent Live Q&A session. Facebook Live video button was currently enabled for users across the world on Android and iOS as part of the company’s overall plan to boost revenues and engagement on the social media website through videos.
