Three days after the arrest of BK Bansal, Director General of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, his wife and daughter committed suicide at their Mayur Vihar residence in east Delhi on Tuesday, reported The Times of India.
Bansal was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on July 16 in connection with an alleged bribery case.
Bansal’s wife Satyabala (57) and daughter Neha (27) were found hanging on Tuesday at their residence on Tuesday. The bodies were seen in separate rooms and two separate suicide notes of similar wordings have been recovered from the rooms.
The police found the bodies after reaching the spot responding to a call on Tuesday afternoon. “Two separate suicide notes have been recovered. Prima facie there seems to be no foul play. However, investigations are being carried out and bodies have been sent for postmortem,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern range) Satish Golcha told Media.
The duo alleged in their letter that they felt humiliated after the CBI conducted a raid at their residence.
Bansal was arrested on Saturday while he was allegedly accepting Rupees 9 lakh as bribe from a pharmaceutical company. According to the CBI, the official demanded a bribe of Rupees 50 lakh from the Mumbai-based pharmaceutical company for not recommending an investigation into the alleged illegal business practice of the company.
The middleman negotiated the amount to Rupees 20 lakh and paid Rupees 11 lakh earlier. Bansal was arrested while he was accepting the balance amount.
The CBI said they were shocked after hearing the suicide. “We are deeply shocked and saddened by the incident. Both the deceased were neither accused nor questioned or summoned in the ongoing investigation,” CBI said.
NDTV reported that the 25-year-old son of Bansal, who was not at home when the incident happened, had also been called for questioning by the CBI.
