Footage from an Emirates plane that crash-landed in Dubai before bursting into flames that shows scenes of panic surfaced on Social Media on Thursday.
The video shows the chaos and panic during the emergency evacuation and shows several passengers attempting to take suitcases from overhead lockers and collect their personal belongings as the Boeing 777’s right engine burned.
“Just jump. Leave your bags behind. Jump and slide. Jump and slide!” a steward can be heard shouting to passengers.
Children’s cries and screams can also be heard as smoke started seeping into the cabin and families jostled towards the emergency exits.
The person holding the camera could be seen jumping on to one of the plane’s emergency slides and the final seconds of the video show passengers landing on each other and then running on to the flames started to engulf the plane’s engine underneath the right wing.
There were 282 passengers and 18 crew members on board from Trivandrum International Airport. A firefighter died while tackling the blaze and 13 people were taken to hospital.
The firefighter was named Jasim Al Beloushi from the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
Emirates Group CEO and chairman Sheik Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said that the accident may have been caused by a mechanical failure affecting the plane’s landing gear.
