Actor Shah Rukh Khan was again detained at a US airport, the third time in seven years that he has been stopped by US immigration officials at the country’s airports.
The star took to twitter and shared the news with his followers, “I fully understand & respect security with the way the world is, but to be detained at US immigration every damn time really really sucks.”
“The brighter side is while waiting caught some really nice Pokemons,” he said in another tweet after being detained at the Los Angeles airport.
It is not clear why Khan was detained, for how long.
Assistant secretary of state of south and central Asia in the US Department of State Nisha Desai Biswal has apologised for “hassle” Khan faced at the airport.
“Sorry for the hassle at the airport, @iamsrk – even American diplomats get pulled for extra screening,” Biswal tweeted.
Her Twitter account says the tweets “are my own”.
In 2012, Indians reacted angrily after Shah Rukh Khan was detained for 90 minutes at the White Plains airport near New York. Khan was in the US to visit Yale University and was accompanied by Nita Ambani. He was understood to have been travelling in a private plane. The US customs and border protection authorities had expressed “profound” apologies for his detention then.
“Whenever I start feeling too arrogant about myself I always take a trip to America. The immigration guys kicked the star out of stardom,” Khan had said to the Yale students after that incident.
In 2009 also, Khan was detained by US immigration officials at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey because his name came up on a computer alert list. He was asked several questions about the purpose of his visit. He was not allowed to even make a phone call for nearly an hour and released after India’s embassy intervened.
