Lauds Hillary Clinton’s “unerring†judgement.
President Barack Obama took on the Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump by describing him as incapable and ill-informed for making tough decisions, and treating presidential elections as “infomercialâ€.
Obama was addressing 65 dinner audience at a fundraiser organized by restaurateur Danny Meyer and his wife, Audrey, at their Gramercy Park home in New York, Sunday night.
At the event, attendees contributed $25,000. Event co-chairs gave $100,000, while chairs raised or contributed $250,000, Associated Press reported. Proceeds will benefit the Democratic National Committee, state parties and the Clinton campaign.
Describing Donald Trump, Obama said: “This guy’s unqualified to be president and he shows no interest in even gaining the rudimentary knowledge required to make really hard decisions on a day to day basis. There’s no curiosity. There’s no desire to get up to speed. It’s a infomercial. It’s a reality show,†ABC News reported.
Obama said that the presidential race will be a close race due to misinformed electorates.
“So this should not be a close election but it will be and the reason it will be is not because of Hillary’s flaws but rather because structurally we’ve become a very polarized society and if all you’re doing is watching Fox News and listening to Rush Limbaugh. . . a lot of misinformation on a regular basis, it’s very hard for you to think that you’re going to vote for somebody who you’ve been told is taking the country in the wrong direction,†Obama explained, ABC News reported.
In contrast, Obama said, Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton is experienced, tough, smart and well informed to make important decisions.
“And she’s displayed it again and again and again. And when I said that I think she is somebody who is as qualified as any individual who has ever run for this office, I meant it. And her judgement has been unerring, and she has been disciplined, and she has been extraordinarily effective in every job that she’s had.â€
Earlier on Saturday night, speaking at the Congressional Black Caucus Awards Dinner, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington D.C., Obama joked, “I don’t know about you guys but I am so relieved that the whole birther thing is over.†The President continued: “I mean, ISIL, North Korea, poverty, climate change, none of those things weighed on my mind like the validity of my birth certificate. . .i mean that’s a boost for me on the home stretch.â€
Obama is expected to campaign for his former secretary of state for the most part of October. The presidential election is scheduled for November 8.
