Though a couple since 2004, Jolie and Pitt got married in August 2014.
Hollywood is in the verge of witnessing yet another celebrity breakup and this time it is the Tomb Raider fame Angelina Jolie who has filed for divorce from actor husband Brad Pitt citing “irreconcilable difference”. After a dozen years together Angelina on Monday filed for divorce in a Los Angeles court seeking physical custody of their six children (three of whom were adopted) with just visitation rights for Brad.
Angelina’s attorney, Robert Offer, cryptically said Tuesday that her decision to divorce was made “for the health of the family.†The filing dated the couple’s separation to last Thursday.
“I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time,†Brad Pitt said in a statement to People.
Though a couple since 2004, when the starred together in Mr. And Mrs. Smith, Jolie and Pitt wed in August 2014 at their French chateau with their children (15-year-old Maddox, 12-year-old Pax, 11-year-old Zahara, 10-year-old Shiloh, and 8-year-old twins Knox and Vivenne) serving as ring bearers and throwing flower petals.
It was the third marriage for Jolie, who was previously, wed Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller. It was the second for 52-year-old Pitt who was previously married, Jennifer Aniston.
The couple adopted children from Cambodia, Vietnam, and Ethiopia. In 2006, they formed the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, to which they funneled many of the millions they made selling personal pictures to celebrity magazines. They were also active in charity works.
In 2015, Jolie once again made headlines for her health when she had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed to guard against cancer.
The last time they appeared in public together was in July when they took the twins out for a birthday breakfast in West Hollywood.
