Her body was found in bedroom, hands and legs tied to bed.
Renowned perfumer Monika Ghurde, 39, was found dead in her apartment near Calangute beach in Goa on Thursday. Her body was half naked and her hands and legs were tied to the bed in her three bedroom apartment, reported The Hindustan Times.
“We received information about the incident late last night. We found her naked body and the flat had been burgled,” said the investigating officer, Rajesh Kumar.
The police have identified some red marks on her face indicating she might have been strangulated. The police said that they are suspecting rape too and more detailed investigation is needed to know the cause of death.
“The house is burgled but we can’t ascertain what things are stolen from the flat as she was living alone,” Investigating officer Rajesh Kumar told Hindustan Times.
The incident came to light when Ghurde’s servant alerted the neighbors when she did not open door after ringing the bell on Thursday. The neighbors opened the door with a spare key she had left with them and found her body in the bedroom.
The police have questioned a few people, including the security guard of the apartment, who had no information of anyone entering the house.
According to the police, the killer may be a person whom Ghurde knew well. This might have helped the killer enter the apartment without any resistance.
The police have formed multiple groups to investigate the case and the body has been sent for a post-mortem.
Born in Nagpur in Maharashtra, Ghurde was a well-known Indian perfumer who had worked with some international companies. The founder of Mo Labs, she conducted workshops around the world.
Ghurde had stayed in neighboring Provorim village before moving to Sangolda in July. She stayed alone in her house while her husband stayed in a nearby house.
