President and First Lady attend BET event.
President Barack Obama was filmed dancing to ‘Hotline Bling’ with Usher during his final White House musical event on Friday.
Imitating the ‘dad dancing’ moves of Drake, Obama got down to the music with well-known musicians at the BET Love & Happiness: A Musical Experience, reported Daily Mail.
Obama said that musical night at the White House, which was one of the favorite traditions of him and the First Lady, ended on Friday.
“So this has been one of our favorite traditions, and it’s with a little bit of bittersweetness that this is our final musical evening as president and first lady,” he said in the opening remark.
The White House has witnessed many events highlighting classic, country, blues, Broadway, gospel, Motown and Latin.
“We’ve had Bob Dylan and we’ve had Jennifer Hudson. Gloria Estefan and Los Lobos. Aretha, Patti, Smokey. I’ve had Paul McCartney singing ‘Michelle’ to Michelle and Stevie singing ‘Happy Birthday,” said Obama.
“We’ve had Buddy Guy and Mick Jagger getting me to sing ‘Sweet Home Chicago. So this has been one of our favorite traditions, and it’s with a little bit of bitter-sweetness that this is our final musical evening as president and first lady,” added the president.
Apart from Usher, the event also featured the Roots, Bell Biv DeVoe, Janelle Monae, De La Soul, Yolanda Adams, Michelle Williams and Kiki Sheard, and Jill Scott. Terrence J, the former host of BET’s “106 & Park,” and actress-comedian Regina Hall were also present at the function.
Obama joked that he wouldn’t be singing any Al Green songs like at a fundraiser at Harlem’s Apollo Theater in January 2012, the video of which went viral.
“There will be no twerking tonight. At least not by me. I don’t know about Usher,” said the president.
Before starting the event, Obama recollected the musical history of White House right from 1801 when the U.S. Marine Band played at the first reception hosted by President John and Abigail Adams.
