The British Columbia police are investigating a Canadian man for yelling racial comments to a Indo-Canadian man, after a video of the racial slurs hurled and posted online, went online.
The Times of India reported that the incident happened in Abbotsford, British Columbia, on Friday when the man who shot the video witnessed an interaction between the Canadian man and a police officer.
According to a CTV News report, the person who filmed the incident has been identified as Ravi Duhra, a lawyer and a Canadian citizen of Indian descent. The Canadian man started hurling racial abuse after he was fined by the officer for illegal parking at the space reserved for Duhra.
The man in the video can be seen “Is there a problem? Ya f****n’‘Paki. Go back to f****n’ India.†He yelled a series of insults including “f****** Paki,” a “f****** Hindu, and a “camel-rider m*****-f******.”
He then says “White power, m*****-f******!” and gets into his car. After a while, he gets out with his mobile phone in his hand. He holds it against the man shooting and says “I’ll film you too.”
“Are you a Hindu? When did you come to Canada?” he asked the cameraman.
“I was born in Canada,” replies the cameraman.
“Are you born in Canada? When did you learn not to f****** mind your own business, you f****** Hindu?” the man asks.
Then he comes closer to the cameraman and says “I’m not threatening you. Don’t feel threatened.” Before driving away, he said “Did you ever wear a turban….I think your wife would like you better. That’s right.”
Media reports said that Duhra started recording the incident when he noticed the man yelling racial comments when he was fined by the police officer.
Abbotsford police Sgt. Judy Bird told the Huffington Post that the police is yet to decide on the charges to be levied against the man.
“We are very disappointed that this type of mentality still exists in our society. And sometimes it just rears its ugly head to remind us it’s still there,†Bird said.
