Lara Trump praises the Indian American community.
It pays off to have a big family, as Donald Trump does. If not the daughter, the daughter-in-law is fine too for a visit goes the reasoning, as some devotees and officials found out at a Hindu temple in Ashburn, Virginia.
The Republican nominee’s daughter Ivanka Trump was supposed to visit the Rajdhani Mandir in Ashburn, to cultivate the “Hindu†masses – as her father famously put it at an Indian event in New Jersey to describe all Indians – and celebrate the festival of Diwali, but it turned out she had other places to go.
Instead, the Trump campaign sent Lara Trump, Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, who is married to Eric Trump, to pay her respects at the temple. It was like a ‘doosra’ at a cricket match.
The daughter-in-law seems to have caught some tips on the campaign trail, and decided to talk about Indo-US relations too, while at the temple (she removed her shoes before entering the premises), to get some ‘Hindu’ votes going for her father-in-law. She advocated Trump for the White House, for the betterment of both countries.
She also said Donald Trump has great love and affection for India and its people.
“This is beautiful….it’s such an honor to be able to come here,†she said, reported Northbridge Times, adding that Indian Americans not only are an asset to the country, but “are valued members of the entire country. Your religion is beautiful and we are very supportive as a country…This country was founded on the freedom of religion and it is so amazing that we have such incredible religions within the US.â€
She also said: “I really like Hindu culture and I respect it.”
Welcoming the Trump family member to the premises of the temple, community activist Rajesh Gooty said her presence has brought in Diwali early in the Fairfax and Loudoun County of the state, reported PTI.
“It has energized the local Indian-American Community immensely. We will continue to assist and participate with renewed energy in participating with interfaith, diversity events,†he said.
“Democrats talk a lot for India, Republicans do a lot for India,†said Shekhar Tiwari, who was part of the group that organized the Diwali event at the temple, reported the Hindu.
“Many of you who have immigrated legally into this country understand it is a very tough process… It is not fair that other people are allowed to come in by jumping over a border and our tax dollars are taking care of them,†Lara Trump said too at the temple, explaining her father-in-law’s tough position on immigration.
Daughter-in-laws can’t be undermined. Doubters need to only look at the Gandhi family in India.
