Rare gesture to show gratitude to an employee.
It’ common to come across reports about powerful people abusing their subordinates. But there are a few exceptions and the Akola district collector is one among them.
G Sreekanth, the District Collector of Akola district in Maharashtra, gave a befitting retirement gift to his driver, who completed his term at the age of 58. On the final day of his driver’s official duty, the collector took over the driver’s seat and drove Digambar Thak to the office for his farewell celebration.
In the photo that is now being widely circulated in social media, Thak could be seen seated in the rear seat in his uniform while his boss – the collector took the wheel. It is also reported that Sreekanth opened the door for his driver, making it a day worth remembering after his retirement.
NDTV reported that Thak has served under 18 collectors, including Sreekanth and his service as a driver ended on November 4th.
When asked what made him showcase such heartwarming gesture, Sreekanth said that he saw it as the way of saying thank you to a man who has made sure that he reaches home safely.
Sreekanth told NDTV: “For close to 35 years, he’s helped the state with his service, ensuring that collectors get to their workplace safely, day after day. I wanted to make this a day to remember for him and also to say thank you for what he’s done.”
