Modi tweets he appreciates Trump’s friendship towards India.
Leaders from across the world congratulated Donald Trump after being elected as the US president, on Wednesday. Though the result of the election was unexpected, leaders showed caution while commenting on the victory of Trump.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a series of tweets, praised Trump and said he would work with the president to enhance co-operation between the two countries.
“Congratulations @realDonaldTrump on being elected as the 45th US President,” Modi said in a tweet.
“We appreciate the friendship you have articulated towards India during your campaign, @realDonaldTrump,” Modi said in another tweet.
“We look forward to working with you closely to take India-US bilateral ties to a new height,” the Prime Minister said.
Mexicans expressed shock and disbelief as Donald Trump made it to the White House. Yesterday the country was in a mood to celebrate the failure of the Republican candidate.
However, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto took to Twitter to congratulate President-elect Donald Trump.
“Mexico and the U.S. are friends, partners and allies who should continue working for the competitiveness and the development of North America,” he tweeted adding that “I am confident that Mexico and the United States will continue to tighten its ties of cooperation and mutual respect.”
The reaction of China was about the possibilities of working with the US for developing bilateral relations.
“I place great importance on the China-U.S. relationship, and look forward to working with you to uphold the principles of non-conflict, non-confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation,” Chinese President Xi Jinping said, according to Fortune.
“We are also watching and following the election and we will work with new US government to ensure steady and sound development of bilateral relations and benefit people of the two countries,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said.
While Germany`s Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen expressed shock over Trump’s victory, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has offered Trump “close cooperation.” She said Germany’s partnership with the U.S. is “a foundation stone of German foreign policy.”
Associated Press reported that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hoped that Trump’s victory will mark a new era in the US and will lead to “beneficial” steps for fundamental rights, liberties, and democracy in the world. “Personally and on behalf of the nation, I wish to consider this decision by the American people a positive sign and wish them a successful future,” he said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Trump and “expressed hope for mutual work on bringing US- Russia relations out of their critical condition.” He said that “building constructive dialogue” would help both the countries and the world community.
“It will not be easy because during the election campaign we heard some elements of protectionism, also some worrying words about women, about minorities,” said European Parliament President Martin Schulz.
“Mr. Trump has managed to become the standard-bearer of the angst and fears of millions of Americans. Those concerns must now be addressed with credible policies,” Schulz said.
Italy’s Premier Matteo Renzi, who had publicly supported Hillary Clinton, said: “In the name of Italy, I congratulate the president of the United States and wish him well in his work, convinced that the Italian-American friendship remains strong and solid.”
Austrian far-right leader Heinz-Christian Strache congratulated Trump saying, “the political left as well as the aloof and sleazy establishment are being punished by voters and voted out of various decision-making positions.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hoped for working with Trump to advance security, stability, and peace in the region. “President-elect Trump is a true friend of the State of Israel,” Netanyahu said. “I look forward to working with him to advance security, stability, and peace in our region.”
