Civil liberties organization promises to see Trump in court.
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), on Wednesday, warned Donald Trump of legal action after being elected as the 45th president of the United States.
ACLU, in a message posted on its website, said that the organization will be eternally vigilant every single day of his presidency and will drag him to court if he is not willing to mend his ways.
The organization said that it will see Trump in court if he implements his proposed policies.
“If you do not reverse course and instead endeavor to make these campaign promises a reality, you will have to contend with the full firepower of the ACLU at every step. Our staff of litigators and activists in every state, thousands of volunteers and millions of card-carrying members and supporters are ready to fight against any encroachment on our cherished freedoms and rights,” ACLU said.
The union urged Trump to reconsider certain promises he made during the campaign such as plan to amass a deportation force to remove 11 million undocumented immigrants; ban the entry of Muslims into the US and aggressively monitor them; punish women for accessing abortion; reauthorize waterboarding and other forms of torture; and change the nation’s libel laws and restrict freedom of expression.
“These proposals are not simply un-American and wrong-headed, they are unlawful and unconstitutional. They violate the First, Fourth, Fifth, Eighth, and 14th Amendments,” said the organization.
“We will be eternally vigilant every single day of your presidency. And when you leave the Oval Office, we will do the same with your successor as we have done throughout our nearly 100 years of existence. The Constitution and the rule of law are stronger than any one person, and we will see to that. We will never waver,” added the message.
A ‘donate’ button is also placed underneath the message ‘See you in court’ on the homepage of ACLU. The message was well-received with hundreds of people coming up to volunteer with the organization.
Trump was accused of sexual harassment by a number of women during the election campaign. Trump was heard making sexist comments about women in a videotape that surfaced from 2005.
