Sadhvi Deva Thakur was a guest at the wedding.
A self-proclaimed ‘godwoman’ and her private guards allegedly went on a shooting spree during a wedding function in Haryana’s Karnal district on Tuesday, killing the groom’s aunt and leaving three of his relatives critically wounded.
Sadhvi Deva Thakur was a guest at the wedding and her security men started celebratory firing in the air, police say. They allegedly aimed at the dance floor and also fired several rounds.
As the groom’s aunt collapsed, the Sadhvi and her group fled the spot.
Many rushed to a private hospital, but Suman (50) succumbed to her injuries.
Following the incident, police have booked the self-proclaimed god woman and her private security guards on charges of murder and for carrying weapons.
The incident took place at a marriage garden near Karnal railway station, which falls under the assembly constituency of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
Earleir, the Hindu Mahasabha leader, who is known to fancy fire arms and has a flashy lifestyle, stocked a controversy by saying Muslims and Christians must undergo sterilization to restrict their growing population which was posing a threat to Hindus.
In another controversial remark, she said idols of Hindu gods and goddesses should be placed in mosques and churches.
Thakur also came out strongly in support of installing a statue of Nathuram Godse in Haryana and claimed that he was a patriot.
