Giving hope to Indian IT industry that is sceptical about the Trump administrations India policy, Senior BJP leader Ram Madhav on Friday said that the US president elect seems to have a friendly perspective towards India.
“Going by his pre-election statements towards India, the president-elect seems to have a friendly perspective towards India. He does not seem to be a run-of-the-mill politician, hence we expect him to bring fresh ideas to counter-terrorism, and establish the rule of law,” Press Trust of India quoted the general-secretary of India’s ruling party.
Madhav also expressed hope that the Indo-US relation, which was at its peak under the leadership of Modi and Obama will march ahead when Trump take the Oval office next January.
Mr Madhav, who spoke at an event organized by Federation of India and Indian Diaspora Studies in the suburbs of Washington DC, is the first senior BJP leader to have addressed on India-US relationship after Trump won the election as the 45th president of the United States.
“The regional powers will have to take a leading role with America playing a supportive role. That is perhaps the way forward,” he added.
During his election campaign Donald Trump, had released a video in which he spoke in Hindi in an attempt to appeal to Indian American voters. In the video trump modified and used Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s election tagline as ‘Ab ki bar Trump Sarkar’.
“The Indian and Hindu community will have a true friend in the White House,” Mr Trump had said.
The video finished with Mr Trump saying “We love the Hindus, we love India.”
