Amul, one of India’s most popular dairy product brands, has forged a deal with global e-commerce giant Amazon to export their products to consumers in the US.
As per the new deal between Amazon and Amul, the global selling platform of the US-based company will now start to sell Amul Ghee and Gulabjamun to its customers in the US. If found profitable, Amul will sell more products in the US market such as cheese and butter.
“There are 30 lakh Indian NRIs in the US. We have been exporting our dairy products to the US for the last 20 years but it was mostly to local stores with Indian population in the vicinity. With this partnership, we are targeting to reach every nook and corner of the American market,” GCMMF (Amul) Managing Director R S Sodhi told PTI.
Amul currently exports dairy products worth Rs. 30-35 crore to the US market every year.
Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (GCMMF) which sells products under the brand name Amul has over 15 million producers giving milk for the making milk products that are marketed by 22 State Marketing Federations, ensuring a better life for millions.
Amazon launched its ‘Global Selling Program’ in India last May, giving Indian manufacturers and sellers opportunity to sell their products overseas.
As of now, more than 18,000 Indian sellers have associated with the Global Selling Program of Amazon and has already registered an increase of 70% in its seller base compared to 2015. According to Amazon, the more than 25 million products are being sold under Amazon’s global marketplace.
The program offers an end-to-end solution that includes assisting sellers with imaging, logistics, tax advisory and remittance.
“We are excited to help fuel the brand’s growth in the US market by offering unprecedented reach to consumers. Through this program, we will offer Amul an end-to-end solution and help the brand cater to the growing appetite for quality Indian food products amongst global consumers,” Amazon India Director and GM (Seller Services) Gopal Pillai said.
