Shirley’s parents moved to US from Kottayam, Kerala.
An Indian American woman, Shirley Cheriyan was burned to death in a two-alarm fire in southeast Houston on late Tuesday morning.
The 31-year-old’s body was found on the third floor crouched near a closet, apparently trying to find a way to safety.
The fire started at 3.17 a.m at the Briarwick Condos located in the 2700 block of Holly Hall near Highway 288, KHOU.com quotes Houston Fire Department. It took more than an hour to get the blaze under control.
Officials are still trying to figure out what sparked a huge fire and the cause of death also has not been determined.
According to reports, The Red Cross is helping about 30 residents who were displaced and many of them are being moved to temporary units in the complex.
Shirley was a radiologist and her parents, who now live in Dallas, were moved to US from Thazhathangadi village of Kottayam, Kerala.

She did not burn to death. She died of smoke inhalation.
