Twins have landed on a billboard ad in India.
In an interview given to NBC News, the Indian American twin choreographers cum dancers Poonam and Priyanka Shah who got an opportunity to perform on Season 9 of India’s “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa” said that their aim is to inspire people to be creative and expressive.
“Our main purpose is to inspire people to come up with something creative and to really express themselves in a unique way,” Priyanka Shah said.
The sister shot to fame after their videos posted on YouTube became viral. The masterpiece of the sisters is a fusion that they call “Bfusion” as it is a combination of Bharatnatyam, a classical Indian dance, Bollywood choreography and elements of hip-hop.
Talking about their success story, the sisters using YouTube alone cannot make the video go viral as there are uncertainties about the medium.
When they started the YouTube channel, the sisters had thought of inspiring South Asian Americans through their BFussion dance but never thought it will become a highly successful channel until singer Chris Brown shared one of their videos on his official Facebook page
During recent months, the twins have landed on a billboard ad, starred in a coffee TV commercial in India, and received a ton of fan mail from across the globe.
“We put [up] videos because it was a great way to express our Indian and American identity…we put up videos because we wanted to be another voice for Bollywood and another voice for Indian representation in the U.S.,” said Poonam Shah.
The twins have been classically trained in Bharatnatyam and are currently working on becoming social media influencers and hope to use their “twinness” to launch and hone in on their own unique brand, Poonam & Priyanka.
