Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Shatrughnan Sinha.
Aamir Khan and Alia Bhatt bagged the Best Actor and Best Actress in a Leading Role respectively and ‘Dangal’ swept away three of the top four awards at the 62nd Jio Filmfare Awards 2017.
The ceremony was held on Saturday night in Worli Mumbai and was hosted by Karan Johar, Shah Rukh Khan and Kapil Sharma.
After a long span of 19 years, all three Khans competed for the Best Actor category this time and Aamir, with his ‘Dangal’ gained the upper hand over Shah Rukh Khan, who was nominated for Maneesh Sharma’s ‘Fan’ and Salman, who was nominated for Ali Abbas Zafar’s ‘Sultan’.
‘Dangal’ director NItesh Tiwari picked up the award on Aamir’s behalf from veteran actress Rekha. It was only the second time he won the top honor in his near three decade career, after Ashutosh Gowariker’s ‘Lagaan’ in 2002.
Alia Bhatt, who was nominated for ‘Udta Punjab’ and ‘Dear Zindagi’, won the Best Actor (Female) title for her performance as Bihari migrant in the former film.
The actress got very emotional about her second Filmfare award and said that the award was very close to her heart. Sridevi and husband Boney Kapoor presented the award to Alia.
Sonam Kapoor bagged the critics choice award for ‘Neerja’ while the Ram Madhvani directed movie bagged the critics award for best film.
The best actor, critics choice, was shared by Shahid Kapoor for his role as a drug addict rockstar in ‘Udta Punjab’ and Manoj Bajpayee’ for his portrayal Prof. Shrinivas Ramachandra Siras in ‘Aligarh’.
Bajpayee also won the Best Actor award in the newly introduced Short Film Category for ‘Tandav’, while Tisca Chopra’s ‘Chutney won the top honors in Best Short Film (Fiction) and Best Actress in Short Film.
The biggest honors of the night, the Best Film and Best Director awards went out to ‘Dangal’ and director Nitesh Tiwari clinched his first black lady.
Rishi Kapoor bagged the best actor in a supporting role for ‘Kapoor & Sons’ and Shabana Azmi was honored for ‘Neerja in the female category of the award.
Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh bagged the debut-male, for ‘Udta Punjab’ and Ritika Singh’s performance as a budding boxer got her the best female debut for ‘Saala Khadoos’.
The music awards were dominated by Karan Johar’s ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ as Pritam, Amitabh Bhattacharrya and Arijit Singh won the awards for the Ranbir Kapoor-Anushka Sharma starrer.
Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Shatrughnan Sinha and his daughter Sonakshi Sinha presented him with the award.
The ceremony also saw a host of performances by Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Alia Bhatt, Tiger Shroff, Jacqueline Fernandez, Varun Dhawan among others.
