James Kirk Jones was apprehended on the basis of an Interpol alert.
A 42-year-old US citizen employed with a multinational law firm was arrested in Hyderabad on Tuesday for allegedly circulating child pornography on the internet.
James Kirk Jones, a resident of Madhapur, was apprehended on the basis of an Interpol alert that the pornographic material was being circulated through a certain IP address located in the city; Hindustan Times quoted the cybercrime wing of the Telangana Crime Investigation Department (CID).
According to the police, Jones was downloading and uploading child pornography in the form of videos and images. A laptop containing 29,288 videos and images, 490 Giga Tribe profiles and 24 twitter handlers/profiles sharing child pornography, an external hard drive containing adult pornography and also an i-Phone containing adult pornography, were seized from his residence.
He reportedly confessed to the police that he has been downloading, watching and sharing child pornography since his childhood in the United States.
The CID registered a case under Section 67 A&B of the Information Technolgoy Act-2000 and launched a probe into Jones’ activities in India. Jones was produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody. The police also said that they will inform the US consulate officials about the arrest.
Jones might face up to five years imprisonment, if convicted.
