Dev has been nominated for the best actor in supporting role category.
Freida Pinto’s love for her Slum Dog Millionaire co-star and British Indian actor Dev Patel might be a closed chapter, but she still admires him as an actor in a very professional level as she congratulated him on winning the Academy Award nomination this year.
Pinto via her Instagram handle announced to the world that she is proud about her ex-boyfriend with whom she made her first international debut.
Dev has been nominated for the best actor in supporting role category for his role in 2017 movie “Lion”.
Pinto who posted a greyscale image of Dev; possibly a reminiscent of the old days that they spent together, with the caption, “So proud of you, Dev! A fine example of what hard work, focus, humility and crazy amazing talent rewards one with. Long time coming, so well deserved! @lionmov @theacademy #Oscars2017 #OscarNominations2017 #bestactorinasupportingrole.”
Even though Indians have made commendable achievements in Oscars – AR Rahman and Russell Pookutty being the notable ones, it has been decades since an Indian actor received a nomination for Oscar.
The last actor of Indian descent to get Oscar nomination was Ben Kingsley, who was nominated for his role in House Of Sand And Fog. Kingsley has received four nominations in total, winning once.
Merle Oberon, another actor of Indian descent, also received a nomination for her role in the 1935 film, The Dark Angel. However, Oberon attempted to conceal her heritage for much of her life, reported The Huffington Post.
