This is the first in a series of SAALT’s community town halls.
South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT) is organizing a Know Your Rights Town Hall on hate violence, executive orders and organizing for change in our communities, in Washington DC on March 23.
This is the first in a series of SAALT’s community town halls. Other organizations that are collaborating for the Town Hall include ASHA For Women, Washington Peace Center, Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights Coalition, and KhushDC.
Moderated by SAALT’s Executive Director Suman Raghunathan, the Town Hall on Rights will discuss the latest executive orders on immigration, its impact on communities and local level efforts to help communities.
The topics include the recent spike in hate violence against South Asian, Muslim, Sikh and Hindu communities as a part of the dangerous trend, apparently, after 2016 presidential election. The discussions will be followed by a training session on individual rights to ensure protection against hate crimes.
The speakers include prominent community leaders Arjun Sethi of Georgetown University Law Center, Dr. Revathi Vikram of ASHA for Women, Shabab Ahmed Mirza of Khush DC, Darakshan Raja of Washington Peace Center and Saba Ahmed of Capital Immigrants’ Rights Coalition.
Residents of DC, Maryland and Virginia can attend the Town Hall that would be held at AFI-CIO Building, 815 16th ST. NW, between 6 pm to 9 pm.
