Vyjayanthimala Bali and ace cricketer Kapil Dev was also honored.
Bollywood’s Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan finally attended an award function after 16-years on Monday when he came for the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Awards in Mumbai.
The actor was honored for his film ‘Dangal’ and received the award from Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat, India today reported.
According to the report, Aamir was invited by the legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar for the event that honors her father. Aamir last attended an award show 16 years ago at the Academy awards when his film ‘Lagaan’ was nominated in the Best Film category.
“It’s a huge respect that we’ve got, Nitesh Tewari – the director of Dangal and me,” India today quoted Aamir Khan.
“I want to thank Lata Didi, the Dinanath trust, and their entire family, for bestowing us and our film with this honor. A film starts with a writer, and the respect that we’ve got across the nation is all thanks to those writers and directors who’ve written and made my films. I accept this on behalf of my whole team,” he said.
The actor and the RSS chief’s sharing stage came as a great surprise for everyone as Aamir’s 2015 statement on intolerance led to a controversy with many BJP and RSS leaders criticizing him and the organization’s followers calling for a boycott of his movies.
Apart from Aamir, legendary actress Vyjayanthimala Bali and ace cricketer Kapil Dev was also honored for their contributions in their respective fields.
The Master Deenananth Mangeshkar Awards are held in memory of Lata Mangeshkar’s father Deenanath Mangeshkar-a well-known veteran Marathi theater actor, and renowned classical vocalist.
