This year’s celebration is aimed to share, deepen, and celebrate the dimensions of yoga.
The Embassy of India on Thursday announced that it will host the Third International Day of Yoga, in association with Friends of Yoga on June 17 at the Sylvan Theater on the National Mall in Washington DC.
According to the official website of Yoga Day, this year’s celebration is aimed to share, deepen, and celebrate the dimensions of yoga, culminating in a “Yoga for Harmony and Peace.â€
The celebrations organized in association with the Friends of Yoga is usually attended by more than a thousand people.
This is the third year in a row that the embassy is celebrating the International Yoga Day in the US capital, after the United Nations General Assembly, in December 2014, designated June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.
Addressing the UN General Assembly on September 2014, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi had said, “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being.â€
India’s resolution in the United Nations General Assembly was accepted by 177 Member States, including USA, and the draft text was adopted without a vote on December 11, 2014.
