Two, including a jilted lover, arrested.
India continues to be a country unsafe for women, as yet another incident of brutal gang rape and murder has been reported in Haryana, bringing shocking flashbacks of a 2012 gang rape incident.
According to the IANS news agency, a woman from Sonepet district of Haryana was kidnapped and brutally raped and killed by two men, one of them being a neighbor who allegedly used to stalk her. The two accused have been arrested.
The incident comes just days after the country’s Supreme Court upheld the death sentence of all four accused in a 2012 gang rape and murder of Jyoti Singh, a 23-year-old physiotherapy intern, in Delhi. That incident had shocked the conscience of the nation.
According to police, the 22-year-old girl went missing on May 9. After her family filed an official complaint, police found the badly mutilated body of the woman 43 miles from Delhi in Rohtak town in the early hours of Friday.
According to SK Dhhattarwal, head of Department of Forensic Medicine at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science (PGIMS), who was quoted by IANS, the woman was subjected to sexual assault and injuries in her body indicate that she was beaten using blunt objects. He also added that her body parts were bitten off by stray dogs.
Police have confirmed that the woman’s head was crushed under the wheels and her face and head smashed with a hard object.
The Haryana police have arrested the two accused and started investigating the case as a brutal gang rape and murder. The two arrested men have been identified as Sumit and Vikas, former a neighbor of the victim who had earlier proposed her. The jilted lover along with Vikas planned the gang rape and murder to avenge the humiliation.
