The four Indian American physicians are Naga Chalasani, Nikhil Munshi, Sanjay Saint and Anil Sood
The Association of American Physicians (AAP) has announced their 2017 elected members’ list and at least four Indian Americans made have been named.
The four Indian American physicians Naga Chalasani, Nikhil Munshi, Sanjay Saint and Anil Sood, along with 56 others were recognized by nomination for membership by the Council of the Association. The physicians got an opportunity to share their scientific discoveries and contributions with their colleagues at the annual meeting.
According to AAP’s official website, the goals of its members include the pursuit of medical knowledge, and the advancement through experimentation and discovery of basic and clinical science and their application to clinical medicine.
Naga Chalsani, of Indiana University School of Medicine, is considered as an authority in the fields of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and drug-induced liver injury, two highly significant public health problems. He published over 180 original papers, two Practice Guidelines, 37 book chapters/review articles, 31 editorials/ commentaries, 10 symposium proceedings, and more than 225 abstracts. Dr Chalsani completed his Residency and Fellowship from Emory University. He obtained MD from Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal, Telangana.
Nikhil Munshi is the director of basic and correlative science at the Jerome Lipper Multiple Myeloma Center at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. He also serves as a professor medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr Munshi received his MD from Maharaja Sayjirao University of Baroda in 1984. He completed his postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at SSG Hospital and Maharaja Sayjirao University, followed by fellowships at John Hopkins Oncology Center and Indiana University Medical Center.
Sanjay Saint is the Chief of Medicine at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System and the Director of the Ann Arbor VA Medical Center/University of Michigan Patient Safety Enhancement Program. His research focuses on enhancing patient safety by preventing healthcare-associated complications, with a special focus on catheter-related infection, translating research findings into practice, and medical decision-making. He completed MPH from University of Washington and MD from University of California, Los Angeles.
Anil Sood, of University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, is a professor and vice chair for Translational Research in the Department of Gynecologic Oncology and Reproductive Medicines. He also holds a joint appointment in the Department of Cancer Biology. Dr Sood is the Director of the Blanton-Davis Ovarian Cancer Research Program and Co-Director of the Center for RNA interference and Non-coding RNA. He completed his Fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
The Association of American Physicians is a nonprofit, professional organization founded in 1885 by seven physicians for “the advancement of scientific and practical medicine.†The Association is composed of members who are leading senior physician scientists and are competitively selected.
Currently, the association has over 1700 active members and approximately 600 emeritus and honorary members from the United States, Canada and other countries.
