Sameer Hasmukh Patel was shot by two unidentified persons
In yet another shocking incident, a 24-year-old Indian American youth was shot at by two unidentified persons in a departmental store in Atlanta on Monday night.
Sameer Hasmukh Patel, who hails for Gujarat’s Patan, was an employee at the store and was closing down when two persons broke in there and shot him. They assailants fled with the money in the cash register, Times of India reported.
Patel was rushed to a nearby hospital, and his condition remains critical.
“Sameer went to Atlanta three years ago to work at a departmental store and search for opportunities for his family members,” Patel’s uncle Arvind Patel told Times of India.
“Many people for our village are shocked after learning about the incident. The family will be traveling to Atlanta shortly,” the newspaper quoted R D Patel, former sarpach (elected village head) of Sundher village.
Earlier this month, an Indian student from Telangana was also attacked in the same manner in a California departmental store. The 26-year-old Mubeen Ahmed, who pursues MS from California University, was shot at on June 4 when he was about the finish his duty at the store where he works as a part-time employee.
In May, an Indian American doctor Ramesh Kumar was found dead in a car in Michigan. All this, while the community is yet to come over the gloom descended with the killing of Indian engineer Srinivas Kuchibhotla in February.
