In a tragic accident, an Indian American couple was killed as the small plane they traveling crashed into a retention pond in southeastern Ohio.
The 63-year-old pilot, Umamaheswara Rao Kalapatapu, and his 61-year-old wife, Sitha Gita Kalapatapu, were the only ones on the Piper Archer PA-28 and their bodies have been recovered from the site near the Washington County village of Beverly on Saturday, Associated Press reported.
The Logansport, Indiana couple, both psychiatrists hailed from Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh, were traveling to Parkersburg, West Virginia. The authorities lost contact with the plane after 10.30 am.
The wreckage was found Saturday afternoon after the Washington County Sheriff’s office searched the local airports to confirm if the plane landed at the wrong airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident, and the cause of the crash is not yet revealed.
The couple owns Raj Clinics, located in Lafayette, Logansport, Kokomo, Fort Wayne and Indianapolis, which are all closed indefinitely, News 18 confirmed.
