‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ has pounced ahead of ‘Spider-Man’.
Fox Studios is once again on the verge of making a definite box office smash with the latest series of its “man vs ape” franchise movie, War for the Planet of the Apes as the weekend predictions put it as the No.1 finisher among movies such as Spider-Man: Homecoming, The Big Sickand Wish Upon.
According to Box Office Mojo, War for the Planet of the Apes has pounced ahead of Spider-Man, which shows a drop of 60 percent in the second week after the release, giving an indication that the spidy might have miss timed his jump big time.
Meanwhile, the report indicates that The Big Sick is doing a better job than expected in the Box Office in comparison to Spider-Man. It should be also noted that the horror PG-13 movie Wish Upon is also struggling in the waves set by the new Planet of the Apes movie as it fetched just $6 million in the first three days of release.
According to the report, War for the Planet of the Apes has already made a box office collection of estimated $56.5 million from over 4,022 theatres, which is the second highest grosser for the franchise a little above Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which was released in 2011 and below Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which received a first weekend collection of $72.6 million in 2014.
When it comes to the production expense of the three movies, War for the Planet of the Apes comes with a $20 million lesser budget when compared to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which cost around $170 million. But, the $150 million budget of War for the Planet of the Apes is still $50 more than Rise of the Planet of the Apes which was completed for $93 million.
Even though the opening week of the latest Planet of the Apes series looks bullish, it is highly unlikely to cross the collection of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which ultimately grossed $176.7 million.
