The Secretary of State visited Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the afternoon and both the leaders vow to combat terrorism.
US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Thursday has concluded his three-day visit to India after meeting Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and the other leaders including External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj as part of the Trump administration’s policy to strengthen the cooperation with each other.
Tillerson arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday for his maiden visit and, on Wednesday, his first meeting was with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. After paying tribute at the Gandhi Smriti Museum Tillerson visited EAM Sushma Swaraj, with whom he had a working luncheon.
Both leaders participated in a joint press conference which discussed the issues of terrorism, relationship with North Korea and H-1B visas.
“In the fight against terrorism, the United State will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with India. Terror safe heavens will not be tolerated,” Tillerson said during the joint press conference.
“Secretary Tillerson and I agreed that we will work closely to ensure that no country provides safe havens for terrorists, and those who provide support to terrorists or use terrorism are held accountable. We agreed that Pakistna should take immediate steps to dismantle safe havens for terrorist groups and bring the perpetrators of Mumbai and Pathankot and other terrorist attacks. We believe that effective action by Pakistan against all terrorist groups without distinction is critical to the success of the new strategy of President Trump,” Sushma Swaraj said.
Swaraj said she discussed the issue of H-1B visa with Tillerson and clarified that there has been no change in the policy of H-1B visas so far.
