Holcomb will return to Indiana from India after a weeklong trip on Nov. 3.
Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb, who is visiting India with an aim to broaden the business opportunities between the two countries, signed an MOU to develop an even deeper economic and cultural relationship with the government of Karnataka on Monday.
Gov. Holcomb who reached Bangalore on Monday morning was welcomed by Consul General Robert Burgess of US Consulate Chennai.
Later during the day, Holcomb and the delegation attended a meeting hosted by IT Minister of Karnataka Priyank Kharge during which the MOU that further the cultural and educational exchanges between the two states were signed. Holcomb called the agreement as first of its kind for Indiana.
Soon after the meeting, Holcomb tweeted, “The hospitality we’ve received from the first step onto Indian soil reminds me so much of Hoosier Hospitality.”
He said,“This trade trip to India is inspirational. To see this magnificent country in person and see how India is forging the future.”

According to Holcomb, there exist a great opportunity for collaboration between the US and India on different frontiers such as technology, tourism, innovation and academic exchanges.
Gov. Holcomb is first ever governor of Indiana to visit India.
During the discussion held between the official of the two states, it came out that Indiana & Karnataka will advance economic ties to serve the people of both states.
He also visited his counterpart, Governor of Karnataka, Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala who shared with him the necessity of partnership and friendship between the two countries.
For Holcomb, his visit to India marks the third international trade mission in his first nine months as governor.
Indian Technology companies such as Infosys and Wipro have their operations in Indiana and they are headquartered in Bangalore. There are nine Indian IT companies with offices in Indiana.
During the latter half of the third day of his visit, Holcomb will meet Infosys leadership.
“With recent, large job commitments from India-based companies, we are building even greater momentum to send more Hoosier-made goods to India and recruit more Indian businesses to grow here in Indiana,” Holcomb said before he started his India trip. “I’ll remain focused on taking our state to the world and bringing the world back to our Hoosier communities.”
Holcomb, who is visiting along with Secretary of Commerce Jim Schellinger, had earlier met government officials, business leaders and representatives of foreign chambers in Delhi and Pune.
Earlier this year, Infosys had announced that it will open a new office in Indiana that will function as a tech and innovation hub where it will give employment to 2,000 Americans by investing close to $8.7 million.
Holcomb will return to Indiana from India after a weeklong trip on Nov. 3.
