Shridhar wants to ensure a strong economy with equal opportunities for all.
Indian American Preeti Shridhar is running for Port of Seattle Commission, position 4 in November election. She will face former Seattle Councilmember Peter Steinbrueck for the sole open seat on the Port of Seattle Commission.
Born in India, Shridhar came to the US in 1986 and eventually settled down in east King County. She has been a public servant in the City of Renton and City of Seattle for 25 years.
Shridhar started her public service in 1993 when she helped the City of Seattle introduce water conservation and recycling programs. Shridhar went on to work in the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability and Environment, where she helped to launch Seattle’s Climate Protection Initiative that led to the national US Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Agreement.
Shridhar earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from The College of St. Catherine. She later received her MBA from the University of Minnesota.
While Steinbrueck and Shridhar agree on many issues like preserving industrial lands for blue-collar jobs and opposing Chris Hansen’s proposed NBA arena in Sodo, they differ in some other areas.
While both the candidates support the idea of a second major regional airport, Shridhar argues for the use of biofuels for planes in order to reduce the environmental impact from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport as more flights are added frequently. She also proposes a flat tax rate on property owners.
Shridhar wants to ensure a strong economy with equal opportunities for all. “As a resident of King County for the past 25 years, I understand what we value about living here and will work to protect it. I will increase opportunity for all people – opportunities for good jobs and a livable community,” she said.
“I will make sure that all members of our community benefit from a strong economy while protecting the beautiful natural environment we hold dear. I will make sure that the Port of Seattle is held accountable and makes wise use of public resources,” added Shridhar.
Many well-known personalities like Rep. Pramila Jayapal, The National Women’s Political Caucus of Washington, and the mayors of several South King County cities, such as Renton and Auburn have endorsed her. She has also raised $35,000, mostly from the Indian American community in the locality.
