Lily Singh appreciated Deepika Padukone soon after the first song Ghoomar was released.

Superwoman Lilly Singh on Friday came out supporting Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati and said she can’t wait to watch the movie in theaters when it releases.
Singh wondered how the role of a queen has caused this much enrage that is not happening in the cases of female feticide, rapes, child marriages and other issues.
“I truly cannot fathom how #Padmavati and the role of a queen have enraged people to such an extent as if female feticides, massive amounts of rape and child marriage are lesser issues. Take a step back from your traditions and castes and look in the mirror,†she tweeted.

“And this isn’t even about defending celebrities or a movie tbh. It’s a fact that real women and young girls suffer because of this nonsense mindset,†she wrote.

Singh said she is ready to watch the movie in theaters 10 times.
“When #Padmavati releases I can’t wait to watch it in theatres 10 times. In fact I’ll buy you tickets too. We’ll watch Deepika’s glorious midriff in slow motion. Over and over again, like evolved, woke and peaceful humans,†she added.

Padmavati, starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh became a subject of controversy from the time of its production. Groups like Shri Rajput Karni Sena allege Bhansali for depicting inaccurate facts and portraying the Rajput queen Rani Padmini in a bad light. The film was initially scheduled for a release on December 1 but later postponed due to these controversies. Karni Sena made threats of violence, reportedly threatening to burn down theaters if the film is released to audiences.
Threats were also directed to Bhansali and lead actress Deepika Padukone, including death threats and putting a 5 crore rupees bounty on their heads. The Haryana BJP media chief Suraj Pal Amu put a 10 crore rupees bounty on the heads of both Padukone and Bhansali. Chief Ministers of the states Madhya
Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan also expressed their disagreement with the film and announced that they will not allow any screening. Both Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat banned Padmavati.
The makers held a special screening of the film for leading Indian journalists like Arnab Goswami and Rajat Sharma, who both praised it and described it as “the greatest tribute to Rajput pride.†They also stated that Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh do not share any screen space at all.
