92 contestants participated in the contest
India’s Shraddha Shashidhar failed to make it to the top 10 contestants for this year’s Miss Universe title.
This year’s winner is Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters. Petters was able to win the title which the country received after 39 years. The event was held in Las Vegas, USA.
A few days back India’s Manushi Chillar made India proud by winning the Miss World 2017 title, raising expectations for Shashidhar but unfortunately she couldn’t be one of the top 10 finalists.
Sashidhar was the winner of Yamaha Fascino Miss Diva 2017. She holds a degree in mass media from Sophia College in Mumbai.
In total, 92 contestants participated in the contest and they were divided by geographic region for the first time. They were divided into regions such as America, Europe, Africa and Asian Pacific.
If Shashidhar had made to the Miss Universe 2017 title, it would have been the third time that India would have won the Miss Universe and Miss World titles in same year. Earlier in 1994, India won both titles through Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai and in 2000 India bagged it through Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra.
