Amazon acquires the streaming rights of Rajinikanth-Shankar’s film ‘2.0’

Amazon has announced that they have gathered the streaming rights of Shankar’s Rajinikanth-Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0.

Shankar’s 2.0 is the most anticipated movie of the coming year. The movie stars Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson in lead roles.

The scientific thriller movie will have its digital premiere on Amazon Prime Video. The Prime members will get the access to watch the Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi versions of the film through Amazon Prime Video.

The major highlight of the film is the debut of Akshay Kumar in South Indian film industry.  The film 2.0 is the sequel to Shankar’s blockbuster Enthiran, which was released in 2010. In 2.0, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar will be seen in the role of an antagonist and the movie is produced by Lyca Productions.

When asked about their association with Lyca Productions, Vijay Subramaniam, Director, Content, Amazon Prime Video said, “With this momentous deal, Amazon Prime Video further enhances its robust Bollywood and regional content library.

Both, Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar are phenomenal actors with an unbelievable fan following that will soon get the chance to stream the sequel of Rajnikanth’s memorable movie on their favorite streaming device,” he added.

The movie is produced at an expensive budget of Rs 450 crore ($69.75 million).  Academy award – winning music director AR Rahman has composed the music for the film.

The film is all set to hit the screens in January 2018.
