Prior to this appointment, Salil Parekh served in Capgemini where he was a member of the Group Executive Board.
Infosys announced on Saturday that it has appointed Salil S. Parekh as its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director (CEO and MD). Parekh’s appointment will be effective from January 2, 2018.
Parekh was appointed by the Board of Directors, which is headed by Nandan Nilekani.
“We are delighted to have Salil joining as the CEO & MD of Infosys. He has nearly three decades of global experience in the IT services industry,” Nilekani said in a press statement. “He has a strong track record of executing business turnarounds and managing very successful acquisitions. The Board believes that he is the right person to lead Infosys at this transformative time in our industry. The Board is also grateful to Pravin for his leadership during this period of transition.”
Commenting on Parekh’s appointment, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, who is the chairperson of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee, said Parekh was the perfect candidate for the position. “After a comprehensive global search effort, we are pleased to appoint Salil as the CEO & MD. He was the top choice from a pool of highly qualified candidates,” Shaw said. “With his strong track record and extensive experience, we believe, we have the right person to lead Infosys.”
Parekh holds a master’s degree in Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. Prior to his appointment, Parekh served in Capgemini where he was a member of the Group Executive Board.
The interim CEO and Managing Director of Infosys is U B Pravin Rao, who would step down on January 2. Rao, however, will continue as Chief Operating Officer and a whole-time Director of the Company.
