Arjun Ivatury, an Indian American songwriter and producer has received a Grammy nomination for the ‘Song of The Year’ category. He was rewarded for his song about suicide prevention.
Arjun Ivatury may not be a familiar name among people, but few of his songs gave him an entry for Grammy nomination. Ivatury, popularly know as 6ix, is famous for his works with Maryland rapper Logic.
Ivatury got the Grammy nomination for his hip-hop collaboration with Maryland rapper titled ‘1-800-273-8255.’ The title song is the phone number of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and the song focuses on mental health. The song is written by Ivatury along with Alessia Cara, Khalid, and Sir Robert Bryson Hall II.
The video of the song is also nominated in the ‘Best Music Video’ category. Ivatury is a Maryland native and he dropped out from the University of Maryland in 2013 where he did neurobiology and physiology.
Ivatury said that he is a keen music lover, but earlier his ambition was to become a doctor or a hip-hop music producer. But the turnaround happened in 2010 when he met Logic.
“We actually really met on Twitter when he tweeted me and asked to meet up because he remembered me from a beat battle and asked me to send him a batch of beats. The first batch of beats, he didn’t like any of them, i kept sending him more beats and he liked this one beat in particular that went on his first project and ever since then, we have become homies,” Ivatury told XXL magazine.
Ivatury has worked with other artists like Dizzy Wright and Michael Christmas. He is currently joined by the independent record label Visionary Music Group
