Indian American actress Mindy Kaling gave birth to a baby girl on December 15 in Los Angeles and named her Katherine Swati Kaling.
The 38-year-old actress is famous for her Hulu comedy, ‘The Mindy Project.’ Reports say that she named her daughter as a tribute to her late mother Swati Roysircar.
Earlier, Mindy Kaling bid farewell to her hit Hulu show ‘The Mindy Project’ after its six seasons. In March 2017, she announced that she was going to wrapping up the show. Then again in November, she took to Twitter and recollected the moments of her innovative show, which she had created.
Kaling quit ‘The Mindy Project’ because she was pregnant that time and was expecting her first baby.
Her pregnancy was announced by her co-star of Disney’s ‘A Wrinkle in Time,’ Oprah Winfrey.
When Kaling was asked about the comment made by Winfrey, she told to Ellen DeGeneres on her eponymous talk show: “If anyone is going to announce big news about your private life, Oprah Winfrey is the person. You can’t complain that much about it. And you also can’t be like, “Hey, Oprah, zip it’- because she is almost like a religious figure.”
When Kaling was asked about her mother, in an interview with the host Willie Geist of NBC’s ‘Today’ show, she said, “she was open-minded and always supportive of her career choice.”
“My mom was incredibly fierce and so devoted to us, just loved us and really wanted us to be happy no matter what we did, my career choice was not something that she was familiar with and she was just so supportive of that. And if I could give that to my child, just that open-mindedness, I’d be so happy,” she added.
Kaling’s mother was died in 2012 due to pancreatic cancer. Kaling’s character of Dr. Mindy Lahiri in “The Mindy Project” was based on the character of her mother. When Kaling was asked to reveal the identity of her baby’s father, she disagreed.
