“While most films don’t do more than $ 3 million / $ 4 million *lifetime* internationally, #Padmaavat has grossed close to $ 5 million in its *opening weekend* in NORTH AMERICA alone… HUMONGOUS… Weekend total: $ 4,980,887 [₹ 31.71 cr]… Few locations to be added… @Rentrak” film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

According to various a news accounts, Thursday’s US and Canada previews of Padmaavat itself earned $1,672,000. The film opened in 324 screens across the United States and is playing in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D formats.

In the global box office, Padmaavat reached the third spot over the past weekend. It grossed $1.2 million in the UK, $1.4 million in Australia and $307,000 in New Zealand. It has also crossed the ₹1 billion mark at the Indian box office on Monday and is now aiming for the ₹2 billion mark.

Padmaavat, which was previously named as Padmavati, hit the Indian box office on January 25 amidst never-ending controversies, protests from Rajputs groups and ban by several Indian states.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-anticipated motion picture PADMAAVAT has just broken the record for the all-time biggest opening weekend for any Bollywood film in North America grossing $4.4 million over its three-day Friday-to-Sunday debut period and $4.9 million over the four-day Thursday-to-Sunday span.

Starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor, the acclaimed film also set a new record for the biggest single day gross of all-time for a Bollywood movie making $1.85 million on Saturday, January 27. Most Hindi films do not gross that much during their entire runs in North America.
