Ahuja joined Facebook in 2009 as its University Recruitment Manager
There has been a lot of talk about Sonya Ahuja, the Indian American woman who is heading the investigation team at Facebook that identifies insiders who leak the organization’s classified information.
According to reports, Ahuja is Facebook CEO’s go to guy when it comes to identifying and punishing “leakers” within the largest social media company.
A former employee who used to frequently give tip-offs about its upcoming announcement to the press told The Guardian about his experience of getting fired, where he names Ahuja as the head of Zuckerberg’s “secret police.”
According to him, Ahuja called him for a meeting giving an impression that it was meant for a promotion, but soon when she opened his case file, which was more or less a Pandora’s box with incriminating evidence including his chats with journalists and links he clicked or even hovered, he knew his bags have to be packed.
“It’s horrifying how much they know. You go into Facebook and it has this warm, fuzzy feeling of ‘we’re changing the world’ and ‘we care about things’. But you get on their bad side and all of a sudden you are face to face with Mark Zuckerberg’s secret police,” he told The Guardian.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Sonya Ahuja is the Director, Company Investigations at Facebook and lives in Saratoga, California. She is married to Suni Kumar Ahuja and has two kids Jai Ahuja and Saira Ahuja.
Sonya Ahuja is a graduate of San Jose State University in BS Electrical Engineering (BSEE) and started her career with Cypress Semiconductor in 2003 as a Product Marketing Engineer and she later served the company as its Business Development Manager and College Recruitment and Development Manager.
Ahuja joined Facebook in 2009 as its University Recruitment Manager and in two years time, she was promoted to the Manager, People Operation. She has been serving as Facebook’s Director for Company Investigation since 2013.
According to her former Cypress colleague Ray Casey, “Sonya is passionate about personal and company development in the soft skills area. I put a large part of my development as a manager down to programs Sonya is either directly responsible for, or has indirectly influenced. She is dedicated to developing young talent during their first six months on the job and, as a result, extremely well-equipped and highly resourceful new college graduates make immediate headway in major projects that move the company forward.”
